We are carrying on our series of galleries of the latest wave of Combiner Wars releases with a look at Deluxe Wave 5. First up in this series is Brawl!
Brawl is the only one of the five Combaticons who is a complete new mold. He’s got a very faithful recreation of the look of his Generation 1 toy, from his tank design, to his robot mode chest, to even the way that his combiner foot attaches to the vehicle mode. Unfortunately, Brawl is possessed of a few flaws that really hold him back. The big one is the waist – it is an unusual design that feels like it stops half-way, and it does not lock in too firmly. The shoulders and elbows are also quite constrained, and the tank turret does not rotate. The arm mode also has issues staying pegged together on mine.
With those negatives out of the way, it remains to be said that Brawl is a fantastic looking toy – he really captures the look of the character – and he does possess some very good points, such as a different transformation style compared to half of the Combiner Wars deluxes, a good range of options for displaying him with his weapons, and most pleasingly, ankle tilts that allow for a good level of stability in all poses. The deco, while fairly bare bones, is also on point for the character’s look. Overall, one I’d recommend, both as an individual and also as the left leg of Bruticus. Check out his gallery to decide for yourself.
