It’s that time of the year again where Concept Art for a Transformers Movie starts showing up.
In this post-movie month, several Transformers: The Last Knight related concept art have been discovered by 2005 Boards Members and they are quite interesting to look at. It is very clear what went into the final movie and what went abandoned, but it’s always nice to learn about what could have been.
Artists such as Wesley Burt and James Paick have contributed to the movie and you can check them out after the jump.
Of course we are issuing a SPOILER Warning for those who are yet to see the movie. But if you already have, feel free to jump in.
First up is Canopy, a robot who sacrificed himself to save Izabella and the kids. Early concept art shows that the robot is not a Long Haul re-purpose but a new robot altogether.
Alt-mode is clearly a Subway Car.
Known as Ruins Bot, this giant behemoth is also a protector of young Cybertronians similar to Sqweeks. You can also see some of them hanging on Canopy’s arm on Subway seats.
However, the protector concept may have been abandoned due to time constraints and his look may have been ditched to save CGI production cost. Therefore, used the already available Long Haul character model instead.
Next up is Drift vs Mowhawk.
While Drift and Mohawk retained their overall look from Concept to Final Product, this fight was not.
The fight against Mowhawk went to Bumblebee instead.
Additionally, Mohawk never got to use the knives pictured on the concept art. Well disciplined Drift with swords against rowdy Mohawk with knives is a clash between two very opposite personalities.
Finally we have environment art. It is happy to note that the concepts here went straight into the final movie.
Cybertron entering earth’s atmosphere, the Namibian horns of Unicron were both featured as they were.
Update:
Concept art for Daytrader has also surfaced and the facial features resembles Steve Buscemi who is also the voice actor for the said character.
However, on the final design for the movie, a beard has been placed to hide… well, you can see why:
