TFNation have announced their latest and greatest guest. Making his UK convention debut is the man who can rightfully claim the title of “the father of Transformers”, Bob Budiansky.
There are a few people associated with the Transformers franchise who have had a role in bringing it to the glory that it knows today. These people include the likes of Michael Bay, Peter Cullen, Wally Burr, Bob Forward & Larry DiTillio, Aaron Archer, and Simon Furman. But among this lineup, few can lay claim to being “the father of Transformers” quite like Bob Budiansky can. Bob Budiansky was there at the beginning of the franchise, and is credited for naming many of the major, enduring characters of the franchise, including Megatron, who he successfully argued for over opposition that the name was “too scary”. He also created the profiles of many Transformers toys for the first six years of the lines run – the original Tech Specs, which have gone on to shape the characterization of those character’s successive appearances, and story treatments to explain the introduction of new lines of toys, much of which has again been incorporated into wider Transformers lore. If this was not enough, Bob also edited the original four issue Marvel Transformers miniseries, before taking over to write the ongoing series for almost 50 of its 80 issue run.
Truly, if anyone deserves the title of “father of Transformers”, it is Bob Budiansky. And attendees of TFNation 2017 will be able to meet Mr Budiansky throughout the weekend, including for signings and panels. Don’t miss it!
